Manga

The manga itself of the Dragonball series appeared in the magazine Weekly Shonen Jump from 1984-1995. However, the manga itself is considered the "purest" form of Dragonball and the manga remains uncensored in some countries. However, the English translation of the manga was censored and canceled in the first attempts of reading the the manga in English in 2000 and the series also has started to been translated into Spanish (Latino/Spain versions) as well. Viz is currently releasing the manga in a 42 volume set, often censoring some of the related elements. However, it should be interesting to note that Viz has not censored a lot of the popular Inu-Yasha manga, which still contains as much "adult themes" as the Dragonball series. The manga special "Yo Son Goku and Friends Return" was also published, but was not written by Akira Toriyama.

The events of the manga follow the major storylines of Dragonball and Dragonball Z, with the following major arcs:
Goku Arc- The majority of DB, which includes everything up until the death of Krillin caused by Piccolo Daimo (King Piccolo) 'son.'
Piccolo Daimo Arc- Includes overall battles with King Piccolo and the result of Chaozu and Roshi as some of the few who die in this arc.
Saiyan Arc- Covers any events after King Piccolo's defeat and up until Vegeta's defeat by the Spirit Bomb (Genkai Gama).
Freeza Arc- The events on Planet Namek and the final battle against Frieza, with the introduction of the Super Saiyan transformation.
Android Arc- Mirai Trunks appears and we learn of the deadly Androids left behind by the Red Ribbon Army (first seen in the Goku Arc) and lasts until the defeat of Cell, as Gohan reaches Super Saiyan 2.
Majin Buu- Goku visits Earth for a day when after dying in the Android Arc and such the events of Majin Buu unfold, being the last arc in the series.
